COMMUNITY POLICING FORUM FOR DOUGLASDALE SECTOR 3 GETS GOING

After a successful and well attended public launch of the Sector 3 Policing Forum on Thursday 25th June 2009, much enthusiasm abounds with a renewed channel for community interaction with the South African Police Services. Sector 3 covers the areas of Lonehill, Lonehill East, Beverley, Magaliessig, Little Fourways, Pineslopes, Leaping Frog, Monte Casino, and Design Quarter, with the effect being that all these communities and their resources will be brought to bear in the fight against crime and the challenge to make these communities crime free zero tolerance zones.



The main object and function of a Sector Policing Forum is to be a highly accessible conduit by every resident, homeowners and residents associations in the named communities, to the SAPS by means of a website very soon to be activated, blog site and other soon to be announced real time communications means to receive crime tips offs, observations, suggestions and community inputs so that every community member can contribute in the fight against crime. These inputs will be interfaced with the SAPS and technology deployments again in real time and crime combating and prevention actions taken by the SAPS to ensure the effective use of SAPS resources.



The Sector Team will be elected annually, will be governed by a constitution and has statutory powers in terms of the Constitution of South Africa and the Police Act, to interact with the SAPS and to call for police action in response to community identified crime combating priorities. Parallel to these functions, the Sector Team shall undertake projects to support the SAPS such as SAPS staff training, deployment of technology, fundraising, crime intelligence functions and identified support functions from time to time.



The Sector Team consists of:

Several team members will be added shortly with the additional portfolio of security service provider co operation being a prominent element to follow as will community upliftment alternates to crime as a lifestyle.



The principal focus areas will be to identify and deploy high tech equipment to assist in the fight against crime, to develop all levels of crime intelligence, community participation and awareness, mobilize resources and funds, assist with SAPS training on the job and the adoption of our Douglasdale Police Station as a development project, co operation between security companies, SAPS operations focused on identified crime priorities, interaction with other local law enforcement agencies such as the JMPD and City Council and to involve the whole community in all aspects of the sectors activities.
The fight against crime has gone to a new level.
