This heron was found on Crestwood Drive opposite the Lonehill Village Church, seemingly unaffected but disoriented. Doug Black picked it up and took it to Free Me who could not find anything wrong at the time. However, unfortunately, the bird did not survive and had to be euthanased due to severe brain swellling which became evident later in the day.
This can only mean that the bird was hit by a vehicle - which is not a great thing to hear happening in our community. If anyone has any information in this regard, please let us know about it.

This not so shy speciman was photographed by Doug Black at the Lonehill koppie at the beginning of June. We are unable to find it in any of our books and would appreciate any help at identification. Either phone us at the LRA office or send an email to info(at)lra.org.za.
